Jorgensen Delivers Advanced Chip Processing System to Aerospace Manufacturer
February 24, 2025 3:57 pmIncreasing Efficiency With Automated Chip Processing
Jorgensen Conveyor and Filtration Solutions recently delivered and commissioned a fully automated, turn-key chip processing system for an aerospace manufacturer. This system is designed to improve efficiency, reduce labor costs, and increase material recovery – providing a smarter way to handle machining waste.
Innovative Engineering at Work
The system automates the handling of machined aluminum chips, stringers, and flashing, taking what was once a labor-intensive process and streamlining it from start to finish.
“The system receives bins of machined aluminum chips, stringers and flashing (remnants of the machining process), automatically lifts the bins to tip them into a hopper, shreds the material into uniform, small pieces, conveys the pieces into a briquetter (hydraulic compactor) and makes uniform briquettes of the material,” explains John Powalisz, Director of Sales at Jorgensen.
Briquettes are small, densely packed blocks of compressed material, making them easier to store, transport, and recycle.
Delivering Real Customer Benefits
By implementing this solution, the customer has seen immediate improvements, including:
- Reduced manpower – Less manual handling of scrap bins.
- Coolant recovery – The system extracts and recycles coolant, lowering waste and cost.
- Fewer material movements – Briquettes take up less space and require less transport.
- Higher returns – The compressed material fetches a premium price from the recycler.
Jorgensen’s chip processing systems make a real difference for manufacturers. It’s not just about automation – it’s about creating smarter, more efficient processes that drive long-term savings.
